Diaper Cake Instructions

What is a Baby Diaper Cake?

A baby diaper cake is a gift of disposable diapers, receiving blankets, hooded towels, onesies, gowns and miscellaneous baby items to give to a mom-to-be or a new mom. You can design the baby diaper cake to fit the little one’s needs or create a theme.

What do I need to create a baby diaper cake?

To create a two tier diaper cake you will need the following ingredients:

* 25 Disposable Diapers - Usually Size 1/2 for newborns

* A receiving blanket

* A burp cloth

* Bib (optional)

* 8 or 9 oz. Baby Bottle

* 10 miscellaneous baby items (booties, rattles, teethers, washcloths, pacifiers, baby socks, plush toys, shampoos, lotions, etc)

* 9 or 10″ Cake Board

* Cake Ruffle or Doily

* Dressmaker pins

To start we will fold the receiving blanket in half, then in thirds. Fold the end in until they touch. Pin the ends together. Stand the receiving blanket up and form it into a circle. You are going to fill this circle with about 15-20 diapers.

Next, you are going to fold the burp cloth in thirds and pin the ends together. Stand the burp cloth up and form it into a circle. Place the bottle in the middle and surround it with the remaining diapers.

Stack the smaller tier of the baby diaper cake on top of the larger tier. Begin tucking baby items into the diapers. Be sure to fit some items snuggly against the top tier to secure it a bit. Be creative with how you tuck in items like washcloths; try to fan them a bit before tucking them into the diapers.

You shouldn’t have to tape any items down. If you tuck your items in securely you won’t need any tape or rubber bands.

Wrap your cake in tulle or cello wrap and tie with a big bow. Baby Diaper Cakes are a unique baby gift that moms-to-be or new moms will love. Baby Diaper Cakes make a terrific baby shower gift. It will be the talk of the baby shower!

Exercise During Pregnancy: Is It Safe?

Of course you should check with your doctor, but many studies have shown that exercise is not harmful during pregnancy. Some have concluded that women who exercise vigorously during pregnancy give birth to smaller but otherwise healthy babies, and one study showed that vigorous exercise during pregnancy can help to prevent preterm birth.

Marathon runner Ingrid Christianson, a former world record holder, gave birth to a healthy baby after winning the Houston Marathon when she was five months pregnant. Sharon Wood climbed Mt. Everest while she was pregnant.

It would be almost impossible for a pregnant women to exercise so vigorously for the baby’s brain to be deprived of oxygen. Excessively high body temperature is a theoretical concern.
Eighty percent of the energy used to power muscles is lost as heat, so the harder you exercise, the higher your temperature rises. While infections can raise body temperature high enough to damage the baby’s brain, I know of no reports of exercise doing this.

Lack of sufficient calories is a more reasonable concern. If you are a heavy exerciser you must be sure to eat adequate amounts of food to meet both your own needs and those of your developing baby. You are supposed to gain about twenty pounds, regardless of your weight before pregnancy. No woman should use exercise or food restriction to attempt weight loss while she is pregnant.
