Creatine - The most researched performance enhancing nutritional supplement
Does creatine supplementation work?
The February 2004 issue of the Strength and Conditioning Journal, the official publication of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, had an article about creatine loading. Why? Because it works!
How does it work?
I never really liked biochemistry, so I will give you the cliff notes version. Creatine is amino acid derivative that enables the body’s muscle to produce ATP quickly. ATP is the muscles main source of energy.
Is Creatine safe?
Yes. Creatine is the most researched supplement when it comes to increasing athletic performance. The only side affects believed are muscle cramps and water gain.
How does Creatine help athletic performance?
By increasing the concentration of creatine within the muscle cell, there will be an extended supply of ATP (the main energy source for muscle contraction). This allows the muscle to maintain muscle contraction for longer periods of time, thereby reducing muscular fatigue. By reducing muscular fatigue your can achieve higher athletic performance during short-duration, high intensity activities (e.g., weightlifting, sprinting, etc.).
How much Creatine supplementation is need?
There are numerous research studies that have show that 5 grams of creatine consumed 4-6 times daily for one week can substantially increase total muscle creatine concentration by 20-40%. However, if time is not an issue, 2-4 grams daily should be sufficient to fully saturate skeletal muscles within a month.
To date creatine is by far the most effective supplement for enhancing athletic performance, I have personal used creatine to assist my training programs for years, and it is one of the few supplements I never want to run out of.

There is a huge market when it comes to vitamins. Every Walmart and Walgreens across the nation are stocked with shelves and shelves of vitamins and minerals. Do you actually know what vitamins are and how they can help you? The word vitamin is from combining -vital amine by a Polish chemist Casimir Funk in 1912. Vitamin B1 was first isolated by Funk. He determined that B1 is one of the vitamins that prevented beriberi. Not much beriberi going around these days thanks to Funk. Vitamins are organic and function as catalysts for reactions. If these catalysts or vitamins are missing such as in a vitamin deficiency, the body can begin breaking down and you can become sick.
We receive vitamins in our bodies three different ways; from food, beverages, and what our own bodies produce; such as Vitamin K and D. Everyone seems to agree that the B vitamins are needed for good health, and most seem to agree that getting vitamins from food instead of supplements is the way to go. Vitamins cannot replace food. They actually need food to work. What does our diet look like? If you are one of these people that lives on fast food, you most definitely could be lacking in the vitamin department. Eat living things such as fruits and vegetables more often and you will feel better. Make a concerted effort to improve your diet before you start popping a bunch of pills. Some people are afraid to take vitamins because they think too much of a good thing can become toxic to their body. To a certain extent there is some truth to this. Too much of vitamin A and D can become toxic so take them in moderation.
I don’t like taking pills, but recently I have been looking into my body needing extra vitamins. As we age, we can’t assimilate the vitamins in our body as much so supplements might be needed. Vitamins are becoming more suited per individual. There are pills for men or women over 50 and vitamins for children and everyone in between. There isn’t a lot of information on the labels but read them just the same. Go with a brand you feel you can trust.
You might also want to talk to a naturopath or herbalist about adding herbs to your diet. There are also a great many of them and it may require some research before you know what you could take. Vitamins, minerals or herbs don’t last forever so before to check the expiration date and throw away what is not current.
If you follow the labels and ask your physician and take any of the vitamins that you believe are good for your body, your energy level should pick up and you should feel great.

Many people are trying to improve their health. In fact, whenever you turn on the TV there seems to be another story about how unhealthy everyone is right now. Naturally, if you are trying to make yourself a bit healthier, then you have to go about it the right way. Of course there are a lot of companies that will sell you vitamins, supplements and minerals that they say will improve your health but you need to make sure that they are really useful or you will be wasting your money.
One of the main things that people buy when they are trying to improve their health is a supplement, but the question is, are vitamin supplements beneficial and are they best way to become healthier?
Asking yourself, are vitamin supplements beneficial, is not really the best question. If you are looking to make yourself healthier then you should be looking at everything and not just trying to take a few supplements to make yourself healthy. Diet is a good place to start and is an area of our health and fitness regiment that most people can make real improvements to heir body, weight and health with. In today’s fast paced economy many consumers eat too much fat and sugar and too many refined products. Of course it would not be good to just not eat any of your favorite foods, instead it is more beneficial for you if you start to make small improvements and gradually build it up.
If you try to eat a good amount of fresh fruit, salads and vegetables with some good lean protein and some good fats like olive oil, then it could be a good start. If you really want to know how to improve your diet then you should talk to a qualified nutritionist. The best way to eat better can be different for different people so it is a good idea to find out what is the best diet modification for you.
Of course you may wonder and want to know are vitamin supplements beneficial to your diet as well. A good dietician will be able to tell you the answer to the question such as, are vitamin supplements beneficial to you and they should also be able to tell you which ones you need. Different people have different dietary requirements and it is best to get some advice form a health professional. Exercise is also important to your health and engaging or performing regular exercise is very beneficial to most people.
However, just as with starting a new diet you should ask your doctor to give you a health check before you start so that they can tell you what amount of exercise you should be doing. Getting healthy can be great fun but you should find out first, what is the best way for you to start.

Problems with the digestive system are among the greatest and the most dangerous, but are often the most commonly ignored. One of the most prevalent causes of digestive problems starts with a problem in the colon. The colon serves as the waste disposal unit of the body. This is where waste and toxic substances are deposited before they are passed from the body.
A properly functioning colon needs to be able to absorb nutrients and then remove the waste materials before they can poison the body. If waste materials are not properly removed autointoxication occurs or re-absorption of the toxic waste. It is really very easy for putrefied waste to be absorbed through the colon wall into the bloodstream and then start damaging other organs of the body. A person may be considered having a healthy colon if he or she is having bowel movements two to three times per day.
Juice fasting is a great way of cleansing the colon. There are various juice fasting recipes that may be easily done at home. Vegetable juices are excellent colon cleansers especially if one to twenty cups of freshly pressed vegetables juices are consumed. The choice of vegetables would depend on the person’s tolerance. Each cup of juice may contain one or two (or more) of the following: carrots, beets, daikon, radishes, fresh celery (both the root and greens), ginger, garlic, cayenne, wheat grass, barley grass, dinkel grass, parsley roots and greens, kale, cucumber, pepper and dandelion.
Never use brown, wilted celery because it may be toxic. Only use the freshest vegetables and fruits. Apples and lemons are also great for the colon. The problem with juice fasting recipes is that not everybody has the time to create freshly squeezed juices every time they get hungry.
The best thing to do is to buy canning jars to contain the juices. The first thing to do is to line up the juicing materials that can provide at least three quarts of juice. Each of the canning jars is to be filled up to the very top so that no more can be added. Next is to hold the disk sealer just over the top of the jar and press down. Some juice should squirt down the side of the jar in order to allow only a minimal amount of air in the jar. Then screw the sealing ring to ensure the disk.
Afterwards, place all the jars in the refrigerator. This will keep the freshness of the vegetable juices up to three days. Simply take each one out whenever you need it.
However, it is important to drink the juice right after a jar is opened. The reason for this is that prolonged exposure to air will destroy the enzymes in the juice. These enzymes are important in cleansing the colon. Canned juices are not beneficial to your health since they don’t contain any enzymes. Important enzymes can only be extracted through juicing and then drinking immediately freshly squeezed juices.
In terms of food, raw foods are preferred for colon cleansing. This is because 30 to 85% of the nutrition in foods is destroyed during cooking. Fresh, raw foods contain the highest level of enzymes that are vital to cleansing the colon. These enzymes are the catalysts for the hundreds of thousands of chemical reactions that occur throughout the body. Most cooked foods have been denatured and are devoid of enzymes and other life promoting elements. While it is true that cooked foods maintain life, they don’t promote optimum health or longevity.
Rhios Raw Energy recipes are great sources of colon cleansing recipes that are not only delicious but are extremely healthy. There are even raw food restaurants opening up as people become more aware of the health benefits and realize that raw foods can be just as delicious as traditional fare.
Please note that it is always a good idea to consult a medical professional before fasting or changing your diet radically in any way.

Can fish oil control depression?
The omega 3 depression research consists of clinical trials with patients suffering from bi-polar disorder, post-partum depression and mild to moderate depression. The omega 3 fatty acids DHA and EPA are generally used together in these studies, but sometimes only one or the other is used. These trials and studies attempt to answer the question: can fish oil control depression? Omega 3 depression researchers use fish oil specifically because it is the best and most common source of DHA and EPA.
Omega 3 research on depression varies in methodology. One study at the University Of Arizona College Of Medicine assessed the effectiveness of omega 3 dosages ranging from a half gram per day to 2.8 grams per day on women suffering from post-partum depression. The sample size was small and no placebo group was used. Doctors used two tests to measure degree of depression before and after omega 3 supplementation. The before and after results of this omega 3 depression study showed a decrease of 48-51% in degree of depression.
The answer to the question: can fish oil control depression, based on this study, was that “results support further study of omega 3 fatty acids as a treatment for post-partum depression”.
An omega 3 depression study in London concluded that EPA was an effective treatment for bi-polar disorder. Because of the link between depression and chronic fatigue syndrome, the effectiveness of omega 3’s in treating this syndrome has been studied and concluded that patients responded favorably.
Another omega 3 depression study was actually a study that involved studying other studes (sounds confusing, but this is actually often done), and concluded that it is likely that low levels of omega 3 fatty acids in the bloodstream are linked and may, in some cases, be the cause of depression. Can fish oil control depression? Very possibly.
In general, many studies report an improvement in symptoms related to depression after supplementation of omega 3 fatty acids.
Keep in mind, no one is suggesting that anyone stop taking their anti-depressant medications. Only that adding a dietary supplement of omega 3 fish oil may help relieve some symptoms, may improve mood.
