Are Vitamin Supplements Beneficial To Your Overall Health?

Many people are trying to improve their health. In fact, whenever you turn on the TV there seems to be another story about how unhealthy everyone is right now. Naturally, if you are trying to make yourself a bit healthier, then you have to go about it the right way. Of course there are a lot of companies that will sell you vitamins, supplements and minerals that they say will improve your health but you need to make sure that they are really useful or you will be wasting your money.

One of the main things that people buy when they are trying to improve their health is a supplement, but the question is, are vitamin supplements beneficial and are they best way to become healthier?

Asking yourself, are vitamin supplements beneficial, is not really the best question. If you are looking to make yourself healthier then you should be looking at everything and not just trying to take a few supplements to make yourself healthy. Diet is a good place to start and is an area of our health and fitness regiment that most people can make real improvements to heir body, weight and health with. In today’s fast paced economy many consumers eat too much fat and sugar and too many refined products. Of course it would not be good to just not eat any of your favorite foods, instead it is more beneficial for you if you start to make small improvements and gradually build it up.

If you try to eat a good amount of fresh fruit, salads and vegetables with some good lean protein and some good fats like olive oil, then it could be a good start. If you really want to know how to improve your diet then you should talk to a qualified nutritionist. The best way to eat better can be different for different people so it is a good idea to find out what is the best diet modification for you.

Of course you may wonder and want to know are vitamin supplements beneficial to your diet as well. A good dietician will be able to tell you the answer to the question such as, are vitamin supplements beneficial to you and they should also be able to tell you which ones you need. Different people have different dietary requirements and it is best to get some advice form a health professional. Exercise is also important to your health and engaging or performing regular exercise is very beneficial to most people.

However, just as with starting a new diet you should ask your doctor to give you a health check before you start so that they can tell you what amount of exercise you should be doing. Getting healthy can be great fun but you should find out first, what is the best way for you to start.

Timothy Gorman is a successful Webmaster and publisher of VitaminSupplementsGuide.com. He provides more information on anti-aging supplements, dietary supplements, antioxidants and answers the question what’s a good multivitamin that you can research in your pajamas on his website.

Try PR and Watch Something Interesting Happen

Try this: as a business, non-profit, public entity or
association manager, plan for and create the kind of
external stakeholder behavior change that leads
directly to achieving your managerial objectives.
And do so by persuading your key outside audiences
to your way of thinking, then move them to take
actions that allow your department, group, division
or subsidiary to succeed.

Interestingly, what you’ve done, is combine a sound
public relations strategy with effective communications
tactics leading directly to the bottom line - perception
altered, behavior modified, employer/client satisfied.

But of course it’s not automatic!

Instead, the mother of all PR plans is required. A plan
that will get each of their team members and organizational
colleagues working towards the same external stakeholder
behaviors.

Here is such a plan designed to keep a manager’s public
relations effort “on message:” people act on their own
perception of the facts before them, which leads to
predictable behaviors about which something can be done.
When we create, change or reinforce that opinion by
reaching, persuading and moving-to-desired-action the
very people whose behaviors affect the organization the
most, the public relations mission is usually accomplished.

Again interestingly, results can begin appearing quite early
in this process. For instance, capital givers or specifying
sources looking your way; prospects starting to work
with you; customers making repeat purchases; improved
relations with government agencies and legislative bodies;
a rebound in showroom visits; membership applications
on the rise; new thoughtleader and special event contacts;
new proposals for strategic alliances and joint ventures;
fresh community service and sponsorship opportunities;
and even stronger relationships with the educational, labor,
financial and healthcare communities.

The extent to which you use your PR staff will bear heavily
on your success as a manager. Will you use your regular
public relations staff? People assigned to you from above ?
Or will it be PR agency staff? Nevertheless, they must be
committed to you as the senior project manager, and to
the PR blueprint starting with key audience perception
monitoring.

Here, invest some real time satisfying yourself that team
members really believe that it’s crucially important to
know how your most important outside audiences perceive
your operations, products or services. Be certain they buy
the reality that perceptions almost always lead to
behaviors that can help or hurt your unit.

Reviewing the PR blueprint with staff is a good idea.
In particular your plan for monitoring and gathering
perceptions by questioning members of your most
important outside audiences. Questions like these:
how much do you know about our organization?
Have you had prior contact with us and were you
pleased with the exchange? How much do you know
about our services or products and employees? Have
you experienced problems with our people or
procedures?

Professional survey counsel is always available to you,
albeit expensive, for the perception monitoring phases
of your program. But remember that your PR people
are also in the perception and behavior business and
can pursue the same objective: identify untruths, false
assumptions, unfounded rumors, inaccuracies,
misconceptions and any other negative perception that
might translate into hurtful behaviors.

The most serious distortions you discovered during your
key audience perception monitoring require that you do
something about them. This will be your new public
relations goal might calling for straightening out that
dangerous misconception, or correcting that gross
inaccuracy, or stopping that potentially fatal rumor.

Any hope for success in achieving your new PR goal
will demand a solid strategy backing up that new goal.
One that clearly indicates to you and the PR staff how to
proceed. But remember that there are just three
strategic options available to you when it comes to
handling a perception and opinion challenge. Change
existing perception, create perception where there
may be none, or reinforce it. The wrong strategy pick
will taste like liver-stuffed ravioli. So, be certain the
new strategy fits well with your new public relations
goal. It goes without saying that you don’t want to
select “change” when the facts dictate a reinforce”
strategy.

Here, a powerful corrective message to be aimed at
members of your target audience is the order of the
day. Persuading an audience to your way of thinking
is not easy. Those PR folks of yours must come up with
words that are not only compelling, persuasive and
believable, but clear and factual. Only in this way
will you be able to correct a perception by shifting
opinion towards your point of view, leading to the
behaviors you are targeting.

Let your people regularly reevaluate the message to
decide if it is up to snuff and really persuasive. Then
select the communications tactics most likely to carry
that message to the attention of your target audience.
There are scores of available tactics. From
speeches, facility tours, emails and brochures to
consumer briefings, media interviews, newsletters,
personal meetings and many others. But be sure that
those you pick are known to reach folks just like your
audience members.

Because the credibility of the message itself can actually
depend on the perception of its delivery method, you
may decide to kick off the corrective message by
unveiling the message before smaller gatherings rather
than using higher-profile tactics such as news releases.

A followup perception monitoring session with members
of your external audience is advisable. PR people should
plan another visit to the field where you can gather
comparative data for use in producing progress reports.
You’ll want to use many of the same questions used in the
first benchmark session. Only this time, you will be
watching very carefully for signs that the bad news
perception is being altered in your direction.

There will be periods in which momentum slows, so
be prepared to accelerate matters with more
communications tactics and increased frequencies.

At this juncture, you’ve progressed beyond tactics like
special events, brochures, broadcast plugs and press
releases to achieve the very best public relations has
to offer.

And it’s REALLY interesting when you pull off this
PR hat trick - combining a sound public relations strategy
with effective communications tactics leading directly to
the bottom line - perception altered, behavior modified,
employer/client satisfied.

Student Loans 101

Student loans are a helpful accessory when you need to cover costs when deciding to further your education, including housing and tuition. Student loans are there to be financial lifesavers when grants or scholarships leave your school funding a little short. There are federal loans available as well as private student loans that will help with the financial overload. Loan consolidation is another helpful tool when borrowed loans are at the repayment period and you are feeling overwhelmed.

Federally funded student loans can be applied for online. FAFSA is an online free application for federal student aid. This program is available for both students and parents looking to apply for financial help. The application has seven steps that will ask you questions regarding your personal information, your school and plans, and financial information. The Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students, or PLUS, is a loan program that relies on a good credit rating in exchange for helping with the financial needs of your student. This low interest rate program will help cover not only tuition costs, but also housing, books, and supplies. This student loan can be applied for online or through the mail.

Private student loans are loans that are not offered through the federal government. They are available through banks or other financial institutions. This type of loan is offered to both undergraduates and graduates and it helps to cover school expenses when federal student aid does not cover your those leftover expenses. Private student loan applications can be found online and you are subject to a credit review by the potential lender. Your own credit or your parent’s credit is open for review and a co-signer may be needed if either credit rating is not approved for the loan. Obtain an application for your private student loan through your lender of choice or their online website, if applicable.

Student loan consolidation becomes your best friend when the repayment period of your student loans becomes overwhelming. Loan consolidation will give you a break and put your various loans into one low monthly payment instead of various repayment dates with different amounts to pay for each loan. The Sallie Mae foundation is an excellent example of a loan consolidation program. All you have to do is visit their website and you have the option of downloading the application and sending it through the mail or filling it out online and applying for it right that second. It is a simple way to achieve student loan consolidation and it will give you the well-deserved sigh of relief and peace of mind.

The Essentials Of Event Planning - Easy Steps That Secure Success

If you’ve ever planned or hosted an event you know how overwhelming it can be. Attending to every small detail can leave you wishing the party was over before it even began. This is even more magnified if you are overseeing a large event such as a wedding or a dinner party for business associates. Something always seems to go wrong and it leaves the person in charge of event planning carrying the burden of the blame.

There are steps you can take to guarantee that the party will be a roaring success. One of those steps is to hire an event planner. If you really do feel as though all the small details are too much for you, you might consider hiring someone who specializes in event planning. There are many reputable companies who can offer you their services for a fee. All you do is explain the event to them, including your preferences when you wish to have the event, the theme of it and the menu and they handle the rest. The onus of the work is on them, and with their experience they can create exactly the type of gathering that you envision.

If finances are a concern and you can’t afford the luxury of a professional event planning service, there are things that you can do that will help your event run as smoothly as possible. Here are a few ideas:

Keep an ongoing list. Plan your event by writing down everything you need to do. As you complete those tasks, stroke them off the list and add new ones as needed.

Choose a theme that is appropriate for all guests. It might be difficult for some people to rent or purchase special outfits for a theme party, so try and make it something that is accesible and affordable for every guest.

Send out invitations or call with your invitation well in advance. Life is busy for many people and giving them sufficient notice will enable them to handle any arrangements they need to make, such as child care.

Choose a menu that isn’t too exotic. Although many people welcome new tastes, it’s often more appropriate to offer menu items that all guests are familiar with, this way they won’t be concerned about possible food allergies or digestive conflicts, if they know exactly what they are eating consists of.

Enjoy the event. Often the host becomes so overburdened with party details that he or she neglects their own enjoyment. Plan the event so you will have free time during it to mingle with your guests.

Event planning can be a tedious task, but with proper organization the work involved in planning the party or event can be well worth it. Getting together with family, friends or business associates in a social setting, is a great way to connect and communicate. With some attention to details before, the party can be a huge and often very fun success.

Celebrate Every Year After Forty, With A Mammogram

Celebrate the month of your birth by having a mammogram - toast your life with this fast, easy and noninvasive test.

A first mammogram is a right of passage for most women at forty. 66.9% of women over the age of forty have had baseline mammograms to establish and document their breast health. But 30% of women have somehow missed this important message and it is an especially important one for the Hispanic and Asian communities who have the lowest average screening rates among American women.

There has been much confusion and controversy in the media about the benefits of mammography in the last two years. In a Danish study that was released in 2001 researchers concluded widespread mammography screening was unjustified. This study along with the numerous ensuing counter arguments criticizing the studies methodology has left many women unsure of the benefits of mammography.

On May 14 of this past year The American Cancer Society released its guidelines emphasizing the role and important benefits of mammography. The panel of independent experts reconfirmed that regular mammography screening reduces breast cancer deaths.

Mammography screening is endorsed by The American Cancer Society, The National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations, The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as well as the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF).

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed female cancer in the United States. One out of every 10 women will be diagnosed with the disease and 40,000 women will die from breast cancer in the United States this year.

According to The National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations web site, “Although some breast cancers are found by women themselves, the vast majority are now detected by mammography at early stages, and at a size too small to be felt.”

Almost every woman should have a baseline mammogram done at age 40 and every two years after that until age 50 (75% of all breast cancers are found in women over the age of 50). Some practitioners even suggest yearly testing for all women over 40. At age 50 and beyond a mammogram should be done yearly. Those with a family history of breast cancer should talk with their doctor about the possible need for earlier testing.

It is an uncomplicated, non-evasive procedure that literally takes a few minutes of your time but it could very well be the test that saves your life.

What if you can’t afford screening?

Most medical insurance policies cover mammogram screenings and for those without health insurance there are may low cost and no cost programs available. Check with your local chapter of The American Cancer Society, the women’s health center at your local hospital or Department of Human Services for low or no cost programs offered in your community.

What To Expect

It is always easier to keep a medical appointment when you know what to expect and information is so important in having a relaxed and comfortable procedure.

First of all, for menstruating women, schedule you appointment shortly after you have finished your period. This is a time when you are least likely to have breast tenderness and sensitivity or additional swelling of the breast tissue from fluid retention.

It is best to avoid wearing underarm deodorant the day of your test because the chemicals in some products can mimic calcification spots on the highly sensitive x-ray film.

You will be asked to undress from the waist up and will be given a hospital gown and robe to wear.

The technician will explain the procedure to you. She will gently position your breast on the small, adjustable machine platform, a metal square of about 12″ X 12″. Many thoughtful technicians will warm up the metal with a heating pad for a few moments before starting your test.

It is necessary to flatten the breast tissue as much as possible and this is typically done with a clear Lucite panel or paddle. It can be a little uncomfortable but it is necessary and shouldn’t be painful. The flatter the breast tissue the less radiation is needed, resulting in less exposure to your body and the best possible picture. Some screening sites will allow the patient to adjust the pressure herself to minimize discomfort. Ask about this if you feel it will help to minimize any anxiety you may be feeling.

Then you will he asked to stand very still and hold your breath, as the x-ray is taken. The machine will automatically release pressure on your breast as soon as it is done. It takes about 10 seconds from the time the pressure is applied until you’re released.

Typically two different views of each breast will be shot for a total of four 10 second periods of breast compression.

You shouldn’t experience breasts pain during the test. If this happens tell the technician and together you should be able to find a suitable position to make it comfortable for you.

Celebrate Your Life!

Make mammography a part of your yearly health physical along with your blood pressure and cholesterol screening, Pap test and eye checkup. Think of it as nurturing yourself. Each birthday is a time to celebrate the life you’ve lived and ensure that you continue to live healthfully ever after.

How To Create An Information Product In A Weekend

The key to success is to start with a group of people who are proven buyers of what you want to sell (the market), not with the product. If you make sure there is a “starving crowd” of people wanting to buy a certain category of information, then you know there’s a market for it BEFORE you create the product.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it.

1. FIND A HOT MARKET - METHOD # 1:

Go to a store that has hundreds of magazines and look for niche magazines that have direct response ads in them (direct response means they are asking for an order). Then look to see if the ads are good or not. If all the ads are good, that means it’s a hot market but also that a lot of savvy marketers are already in it.

Not good. We want an easier way.

So, keep looking and find magazines with direct response ads that suck. Then look at a year’s worth of back issues to see if their ads continually run. If they do, you have a winner. If any ad is run in many issues that means it’s working. If you find bad ads getting run over and over, that’s a great opportunity to do a good ad and take over the market

So how do you know if an ad is good or not? If you have no experience in direct marketing, you want to look for ads with a good headline that catches your attention and then a long letter format with a lot of copy. The copy should have subheads and flow easily from one paragraph to the next. Lastly, there should be an easy way to order and a compelling reason to act now, not later.

2. FIND A HOT MARKET - METHOD # 2:

Go to a major city library and get a copy of Standard Rate & Data’s “Direct Mail List Source”. This book has something like 50,000 different direct mail lists. This means lists where people have bought something by mail. The info on each list tells you what they are selling, how many customers they have and what the average order is. Pretty handy.

From the information given on each list, take the number of customers for the last 30 or 90 days (”hot line” customers), multiply that number by the average order size and then multiply that number to get annualized sales.

This tells you how much sales the list you are looking at did in the last year. Do this for each list and you’ll know how big the total market is.

Look in categories that interest you and see how many lists there are of people buying things in that market. If, like with golf, there are 100s of lists of buyers of golf products or info - you know it’s a hot market. You can rent all these lists for your own mailing.

3. DECIDE ON A THEME

for your information product. From looking at your market, what do you think people might want to know that is not readily available?

4. GO TO THE LIBRARY

Yes, the library. You are going to find and quickly read every book in the library on your topic. Here’s how. For example, say you are looking at golf and want to create a report on how to hit a longer drive. Look at the table of contents in each book and the index in the back for anything in the book about hitting a drive further. Ignore everything else. Then, copy or take notes on everything you find.

5. GO ONLINE

and do the same thing. Research your topic with as many key words as you can think of and note everything you find on your topic. After these two steps, you have the information to be a world-class expert on your topic. This can be done in 1 day.

6. MAKE AN OUTLINE

of your information product from all the information you found and group all your info into sections to make an outline. Make a list of all the benefits this information will give someone and group these benefits into logical sections or “chapters”. Write down all the “proof” you find along with the benefits. By that I mean what 3rd party evidence, testimonials or other data that proves each item is true. You’ll need this for your sales letter.

7. WRITE YOUR SALES LETTER OR AD

to sell the product. Do not create the product yet; write the letter to sell it first focusing on the benefits to the purchaser. If you don’t know how, either learn from all the books and courses available or find someone to do it for you for a piece of the profits.

8. TEST YOUR LETTER

you can use Google ad words and do it in a few hours or rent a email list of buyers or rent direct mail lists and send out your letter to at least 3 lists to see if it sells. If it does, great. Create the product. If not, return everyone’s money and try another product.

There are FTC rules about selling something you don’t have, but if you are just doing a test and refund 100% of whatever people paid, I wouldn’t think there would be complaints but be sure to check with your legal advisor first as I’m no lawyer.

9. REVISE YOUR OUTLINE

If it sells, or if you decide to do the product first, revise your outline to deliver on all the promises you made in your sales letter.

10. BREAK EACH CHAPTER DOWN INTO 4 - 5 SUBPOINTS

Then write 3 topics for each subpoint and then rephrase each of them as questions.

11. GET A DIGITAL RECORDER THAT CAN MAKE MP3 FILES

If you’re creating an audio product have someone ask you all the questions along with any others than come up during the conversation. If you’re doing a printed product, ask the questions to yourself and answer them.

12. PICK AN ONLINE SERVICE TO TRANSCRIBE YOUR AUDIO

and have it transcribed. You can get this done for 1 to 1 cents/word.

13. EDIT IT & YOU’RE DONE!

Consider selling several versions of your information. A printed report could be a $29 - $49 product and you could also offer a $199 or $249 audio version. I did exactly this with one of my products and included the transcript with the audio CD’s to add even more value.

The key point to all this is that you started by finding a proven market, picked a topic that is in demand in that market, researched all the available information on it, and finally prepared your information product from all this giving your customer something better than what’s available now.

I like this business because your cost of goods can be as low as 0% to 10% of your selling price. If delivered electronically, your cost of goods is 0. If sent by mail, costs are still very low.

If you get past the testing phase and have a winner, there are plenty of people who will finance the roll out for you. They will handle all the execution and fund the project as well. I can refer you to people to finance it for you once you get to that point.

On Printers and Spying

Sometimes printing is not safe if the document should remain
secured. Printers may leave some evidences or even let the
others copy the whole document you have been keeping. If
everything should remain secured, then keep it tenable to
prevent leakage with your protected documents. Just like those
we see in the movies, some files are left to be hidden and
reserved. Then there comes the spies who intrude secretly
through your documents and copy it and destroy it. Well, that
does not really happen in the movies at all. It happens in most
business establishments especially nowadays that competition is
at the peak and mounting. They just couldn’t let this happen so
they had to make a way to keep preventing cases of counterfeit
and imitations. The US had been very specific with security in
printers. Of course you wouldn’t want to have your files being
viewed by the public. You might not know that the resources and
tools you are restricted for private use. These things are hard
to pin down because there are no rules that live by this abuse.
So it’s your concern to keep your files hidden. The solution to
this is by using printer codes in order to protect the secret
facts or information. If anyone wants to access the printer, he
should have the code in order for the printer to function. This
will save your documents from being stolen. Just imagine losing
your top secrets through printers. Well that is somewhat
frustrating. Who would think printers were a cause? That doesn’t
mainly account the files to be easily hacked. But this problem
is not that easy to be solved because the government is not
taking seriously the problem. Maybe the only remedy is to keep
restrictions and rules for your own documents. If it leaks, you
should have the authorization to keep your files away from being
copied and duplicated. This project in the assessment of
printers is very valuable since documents are left to be
secured. Thus rules in documents are to be considered protected.
Do you want your local print shop to restore your files and have
those to spread it out?

Fall is the Time to Get Your Garden Trees and Shrubs Ready for Winter: Here’s What to Do

Tips for winter care of trees and shrubs

With the garden season drawing to a close, it’s awfully tempting to forget about your plants. But you should continue to water all woody plants - especially newly planted trees and shrubs and all evergreens. Helping your valuable garden trees and shrubs sail through winter starts with thorough watering in the fall.

Water your plants well until the ground freezes, and make sure you water enough through a dry fall. Your plants will need the equivalent of one inch of rain per week. (In a wet fall, you can relax.)

Evergreens and broadleaf evergreens (shrubs such as rhododendron and boxwood) don’t lose their leaves, so they need a good store of moisture going into winter because they continue to transpire (give off water vapor) through the cold months.

Most winter damage to evergreens doesn’t actually come from cold, but from the drying effects of late winter sun and wind. With the soil frozen hard, plant roots can’t take up water to make up for moisture losses from transpiration and, as a result, dehydration can cause browning or burning of foliage.

Winterizing trees and shrubs: To wrap or not to wrap?

When considering winter care of trees and shrubs, don’t go crazy with burlap wrap. It’s extra work and doesn’t look great.

After all, the whole point of evergreens is to give you something green to look at in the winter! Contrary to popular belief, most established evergreens hardy in your region don’t need to be wrapped.

However, as with many things in gardening, there are exceptions. Some evergreens, such as dwarf Alberta spruce, are prone to winter-burn, so they should be covered, as should newly planted evergreens. (New plants haven’t had time grow extensive roots that help them take up enough moisture to prevent excessive water losses.)

To make a windbreak around vulnerable plants, hammer four stakes into the ground and staple on a burlap covering. Never use plastic, or your plants could “cook” on sunny days. (Remember the greenhouse effect?)
